The St. Louis Cardinals are 29-28 after yesterdays 4-3 win over the Astros. I feel they have the better pitcher on the mound today, and are the right pick against the Astros, who are 24-32 and on a terrible streak of 9 losses over their last 11.
Regardez le pitching matchup. The Cardinals send out right-handed ace Lance Lynn, who is one of only 3 men with 8 wins this season. He will look to improve on that 8-2, record and 2.63ERA against a Houston side he has beaten in his only career start against them.
Lynn allowed 2 runs against New York last weekend but left in the 5th inning due to a high pitch count. He has however given up no more than 3 earned runs in all but one of his 11 starts this season and is 5-1 on the road after 7 starts.
The Astros counter with JA Happ, who is 4-5 with a 4.31ERA. He comes into this off 2 losses, with the last one seeing him give up 3 runs over 7 innings against the Cincinnati Reds. Bear in mind, his head to head against St. Louis is pretty terrible, going 1-7, including a loss a month ago when he allowed 6 runs in just 5 innings!
St. Louis are still the run leaders in MLB and are scoring over 5 a game. Happ and his bullpen will likely give up at least that number, with not much hope of scoring that much themselves.
