PREVIEW
San Francisco had their season best 4 game winning streak halted yesterday as the Padres hit 3 homers en route a 6-5 win. Today, the Padres have been installed as underdogs at home. I'm not sure the Giants are as good a bet as they look.
The Giants are going with Madison Bumgarner, who is 6-4 with a 3.04ERA. His win last Friday against the Cubs was his first in almost a month. I realise he has already faced San Diego in late April, when he allowed just 1 run in almost 8 innings, but San Diego looked good with their bats yesterday, in particular Carlos Quentin, who hit 2 homers and is looking very dangerous.
Quentin hit 2 homers in yesterdays win and has gone 12 for 23 with 5 homers and 9RBIs in 6 games, as he was injured before that. That's a batter in red hot form.
The Padres counter with Clayton Richard, who is 2-6 with a 4.44ERA. However, that ERA is misleading. Richards last 4 starts have seen him compile a 3.00ERA, and he was actually quite dominant when he allowed just 1 run in almost 7 innings against Arizona, last Friday. Richards owns a 3.35ERA against the Giants, against whom he has gone 5-3. At home he has a 1.39ERA against the Giants, going 2-1!
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going to take the Padres to win outright but the RL is priced at 1.71 and that is a great price to take a team to not lose by 2 clear runs.
The Pick :
San Diego Padres
