PREVIEW
At 29-25 I believe this is an Indians side that has overachieved. Yesterday they came from behind and won 4-2 against the Tigers, and I believe Detroit, who are desperate at 25-30, will bounce back.
The Indians have Jeanmar Gomez on the mound, with a 3-4 mark and a 4.42ERA. Bear in mind, Gomez comes into this having been manhandled in his last 2 starts, both losses. HE gave up 6 runs against Chicago and then another 5 against Kansas City, in under 11 winnings of work combined!
Gomez does not have a good record against Detroit, going 1-2 with a lofty 7.08ERA in just 4 starts. When pitching on the road against Detroit, he has gone 0-2 with a 15.26ERA. Yowza!
The Tigers counter with Max Scherzer, owner of a 5-3 record and a 5.55ERA. He does however come into this having won his last 3 starts. His last loss came all the way back in April! His last start saw him restrict Boston to just 3 runs over 6 innings and he has been striking out a lot of batters over this 3 game winning streak, 30 to be precise!
Last season, Scherzer went 3-0 against Cleveland in 4 starts. I think we have to keep faith with him in this one and count on Detroit to break out against Gomez, who looks like a pitcher that should be opposed no matter who he was starting against today.
