Detroit are 14-13, including 5-4 away from home, and will now play Seattle, who are 13-17 but with a good head-to-head record against the Tigers. Seattle have won the last 4 meetings between the two, and 8 of the last 10 if you go back to last season. However, Detroit have a man on the hill that has helped them win 10 of his last 11 starts!
The Detroit Tigers send out Doug Fister tonight to face his former team. Seattle traded Fister away late last season and he has been a total stud for the Tigers. Detroit won his first 6 starts, and as I said, they have lost just 1 of his last 11 starts now. Fister is coming back from an injury, which is a slight concern, but reports say he was great in rehab and totally ready to come back here.
The Mariners counter with Blake Beavan, who is 1-3 with a 4.45ERA. Beavan's pitching has gotten worse with every start now, and that is good for us here. He had 3 good games, but his last 2 games have seen him pitch 11 innings and give up 8 runs. This is a Mariners side that has been fortunate to avoid the big hitting sides this season, such as the Red Sox, Yankees and the Orioles.
Seattle have faced a few good teams though, and got outclassed when they have. Tampa Bay, who are big hitters, swept them. Toronto beat them 2 games out of 3, and the Texas Rangers beat them 3 games out of 4. Seattle have only looked good in that series win in Detroit, but other than that, this is a team that has looked beatable and the pitcher on today does not inspire confidence.
Seattle have won just 2 of Beavan's last 7 starts, and have a 5-7 losing record here at home.
BETTING VERDICT
There is a massive revenge angle here too for Detroit. Only a few weeks ago, Seattle rolled into Detroit and swept the Tigers, with the aggregate score being 21-9! That guarantees us a motivated concentrated effort by Detroit as they try and right that embarrassment.
