Well, it’s been a long, hard season and it comes down to the wire in league One between the two Sheffield clubs – United and Wednesday, to battle it out in a straight promotion face-off on Saturday with both teams facing already relegated opposition; Wednesday playing host to Wycombe, while United travel to second from bottom Exeter City.
Of the two sides, perhaps Wednesday have the slight edge over their rivals with playing their final match at home in front of what should be a packed Hillsborough.

The Owls are on a thirteen match unbeaten run which has seen them put themselves in a fantastic position of automatic promotion, amidst swapping places with their neighbours in the table on a regular basis behind leaders Charlton.
Wednesday’s home record stands at a formidable 16-4-2 46/19, and they’ve won six of their last seven at home including wins over arch-rivals United and Carlisle. There’s plenty in the goalscoring department too with striker Gary Madine (18 goals) their leading scorer, along with Reda Johnson, Ryan Lowe and Nile Ranger posing the main scoring dangers.

Visitors Wycombe Wanderers have nothing to look forward to apart from League Two football next season and I daresay a few players will be playing for their contracts ahead of an anticipated summer clear-out.
The Swans have been disappointing in this campaign and if we look at their away record of 4-4-14 28/48, you’ll know that they’ve conceded the most number of goals on the road along with relegated Chesterfield. A run-in of seven matches without a win did for them, and they effectively let off Walsall and Leyton Orient who must count themselves extremely lucky to avoid the trap-door.
Wycombe have failed to score on eight occasions out of their 22 away matches so far which, considering their league position, isn’t that bad actually. But the outstanding statistic for me is that have failed to keep a clean sheet in all matches on the road, and I can’t see that changing against a Sheffield Wednesday side who are gunning for promotion and will be well up for it at Hillsborough today.

I’m therefore predicting goals in this encounter as Wednesday must attack to ensure it is they who join Charlton up into the Championship next season; I’ll back Over 3 goals here with Wednesday likely to win either 3-1 or a straight 4-0.
