PREVIEW
Pittsburgh and Colorado will start their series today after the game yesterday got postponed. There isn't a pitching change, and I think it favours the Pirates.
The Pirates come into this with a 6-9 record and are home but did just take a game of St. Louis, which is impressive. Tonight, they will send Kevin Correia to the mound, and he has done well so far this season. Correia is 1-0 with a 1.50ERA, and has encouragingly pitched at least 6 innings in both games, giving up just 2 runs combined. No one has been able to hit him for a homer and he's given up just 7 hits. All in all, dominant.
In his last start against Colorado, last year, Correia shut the Rockies out completely, pitching a shut-out of almost 7 innings that helped the Pirates complete a 3-0 win. We should get about 6 or 7 innings from him again and I am encouraged that the bullpen is keeping a 1.59ERA at home.
The Rockies may be 8-7 but they are 3-3 away from home (same as Pittsburgh are at home), and they go with a pitcher who is almost 50 years old! Jamie Moyer is 1-2 this season and has a 2.55ERA. Now that is not a bad stat to have at all, but his last start saw him get hit for 2 homers, and he ended up pitching 5 innings where he surrendered 4 runs, 3 of which were earned.
Moyer may be decent but I don't think he is a consistent pitcher. Also, Moyer has a 1-5 record down in Pittsburgh when facing the Pirates, with a 6.92ERA through 8 starts.
BETTING VERDICT
Not much more to say about this. I love the price on Pittsburgh, who are home with the better pitcher. You can get a near even money bet and so I will stick to the straight win.
