And then there were 4. Atletico Madrid are one of 3 Spanish teams still left in the Europa League at the QF stage, making up almost half the contenders. They face German side Hannover in the 1st leg in Spain. Judging by the Germans results back on their own patch, it is imperative the Spaniards get it done tonight.
Hannover are playing well when at home, and are the only side in the Bundesliga that is undefeated at home. They are bound to trouble Atletico when they are visiting which is why they must capitalise here. The chances are good for that, as Hannover are beatable when travelling. So far, despite the home record, they have been beaten away from home 7 times. They will put up a fight though, as they did recently against Bayern Munich, losing by the slimmest margin.
The short odds on Atletico Madrid make sense, because they are the favourites, however I do not think the AH makes sense, because I really have my doubts as to whether they can roll the Germans over by more than a goal. They have played a lot of games this month, and that is tiring for the best of teams. Madrid will want a clean sheet to make things easier, and will not be going gung-ho here.
The home form is reliable though, with the Spaniards winning their last 7 home games when playing European competition. However, when you consider they lost their last 2 games in Spain when travelling, one of them being against last placed Zaragoza, it makes sense to be a bit cautious. There is a decent chance for Hannover to grab a draw here, but gun to head I like the Spaniards to win, but only just.
