PREVIEW
Coventry have stunk away from home this season, failing to win on the road and gathering just 4 points. They are in the relegation zone, and visiting Cardiff City, who will know this is a great opportunity to win and climb above Birmingham and Middlesborough into the playoff spots, as both those teams dropped points on Tuesday.
Coventry may have picked up points recently but that is due to 3 successive draws. The Sky Blues have picked up just 1 win in their last 6 matches and do not have a good head-to-head record against Cardiff. The Bluebirds have not lost to Coventry in any of the last 8 league matches, winning 6 of those encounters.
The last match between the two, played earlier this season at Coventry, ended in a 1-1 draw but the man who got Coventry's equaliser is no longer with the club. It really does not look good for Coventry to keep up with Cardiff, as they are the worst scorers in the Championship this season with just 31 goals.
The Carling Cup run may have had an effect on Cardiff's league matches, as they have won just 2 of their last 10, but they did win recently 2-1 at Bristol City and held Brighton to a 2-2 draw, so there are goals in this team. They came agonisingly close to beating Liverpool in the Cup final too, losing on penalties after the game ended 2-2.
Rudy Gestede is due to return to action as his hamstring heals, which will help the Cardiff attack. Coventry are missing a couple of midfielders, Carl Baker and David Bell, along with striker Cody McDonald. While that does weaken them, along with the fact they are the ones travelling, I just feel Cardiff are now due, as they are a very good side and worthy of the playoff spots, which they are just shy off before kickoff.
BETTING VERDICT
Cardiff are due a few goals, and Coventry have shipped 50 already this season and have already ridden some luck in scraping draws. I think they will come to Cardiff and lose.
I notice you can get a better price than the home win by taking Cardiff to score more than a single goal. Looks a decent bet that, and if you combine it with a win and Coventry's poor offence, the best bet is a Cardiff win on the AH. I'm on.
