Football – England – Championship
Wednesday 21st March 2012 – Kickoff: 1945hrs
Mid-table Ipswich Town and Burnley clash at Portman Road on Wednesday night and although only one place and one point separate them before tonight’s match, both teams seem to be heading in opposite directions in the Championship.
Ipswich Town (15th)
Home : 9-1-7 34/25
Ipswich are back on an unbeaten run following their 0-3 loss at Brighton back in February and have since beaten Bristol City and Peterborough United at home while taking points off league leaders Southampton and play-off candidates Hull City on the road.
At home, The Tractor Boys are unbeaten in their last five, winning their last four on the trot in some style as they’ve beaten West Ham 5-1, Cardiff City 3-0, Bristol City 3-0 and Peterborough 3-2.
Ipswich Town's home record now stands at 9-1-7 34/25, and their ability to find the net should not be underestimated with only Southampton (40 goals) scoring more than them at home.
Up front Ipswich have striker Michael Chopra, along with numerous attacking options such as Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Aaron Cresswell, Lee Martin and Jason Scotland.
Burnley (14th)
Away : 8-1-9 21/25
Visitors Burnley are five games without a win now and face a confident and strong Ipswich side away from home as they search for a rare away win these days. In fact their last away win was at Nottingham Forest back in late January and their away record stands at an indifferent 8-1-9 21/24.
The Clarets have scored just two away goals in their last four on the road and have failed to score in three of them. Not good stats to have behind you when travelling to free-scoring Ipswich.
Jay Rodriguez and Charlie Austin are their main attacking threats although Rodriguez missed the trip to Cardiff City with a groin problem and despite being hopeful of a return at Ipswich, they won’t want to rush his return to the side.
The Betting Verdict :
An in-form Ipswich Town gets my vote for this fixture, and I’m also expecting to see a few goals fly in; maybe a 2-1 or 3-2 home win for the Tractor Boys.
The Pick :
Ipswich Town 2-1 Burnley
