Wolves v Blackburn Rovers
Football: English Premier League
Saturday 10 March 2012 - Kick Off 3pm

Wolves

I think I read somewhere that Terry Connor has been part of the Wolves backroom staff for 13 years, working with 4 managers in that time, but I think he needs to quickly learn if he is going to prolong his own time as a manager while keeping Wolves in the Premier League. The honeymoon period was well and truly put to bed last week at Fulham and this game is a huge one for the club.

Wolves are 18th in the Premier League due to an inferior goal difference to both Blackburn Rovers and QPR, and they could actually find themselves even lower in the League depending on how the early game between Bolton and QPR finishes. One way or the other, this is going to represent a big game for them in the race for survival this season. They have a 3-2-8 home record this season, scoring 17 goals and conceding 28 in those games.

After seeing his team come back from a 2 goal deficit to earn a point at Newcastle United, Connor must have thought management was easy... Until they were battered 5-0 at Fulham last week. Wolves have won 1 of their last 15 games in all competitions and they continue to concede far too many goals at home. The team have lost 5 in a row in all competitions at home, while they have conceded at least 2 goals in 6 straight League games here.

Stephen Hunt and Karl Henry have been ruled out for the home side, while David Edwards is a major doubt. Steven Fletcher should return to the starting line up having been left out of the Fulham game with an illness.

Blackburn Rovers

It looked like Blackburn Rovers were going to be spending another week in the relegation zone following a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at home last week, but Wolves' heavy loss at Fulham actually took the team out of those positions without playing. Steve Kean is still under pressure from the supporters, but a positive result here may get the naysayers off his back.

The team are 17th in the Premier League table, but may have dropped into the relegation zone depending on the result from the early kick off between Bolton and QPR. They will be looking to improve their record away from home where they are 1-6-6 so far this season, scoring 18 goals but conceding 33.

Rovers have won just 1 of their last 6 Premier League games, although that could be a vital one as it was against QPR at home. They come into this game having failed to win any of their last 4 away games in all competitions, while their last 2 away games in the League has seen the side concede 10 and only score 1. However, one positive Blackburn can take into this game is the fact that they have scored in 12 of their 13 away games in the League this season.

Bradley Orr has a hamstring issue and could miss out, while David Dunn will be hoping he can recover from an illness and get back into the starting line up after scoring against Aston Villa last week.

Head to Head

Wolves earned a vital 1-2 win at Ewood Park earlier this season, but Blackburn Rovers will be quietly confident after securing their Premier League future with a 2-3 win here last season on the final day of the season.

Blackburn have now avoided defeat at Molineux on their last 4 visits to this stadium, although the 3 games before last season had all ended in draws.

The Wolves win at Ewood Park was their first against Blackburn in 9 games overall.

Prediction

This is the other 'relegation six-pointer' to be played on Saturday and I really don't know which one of these teams is going to grab the victory, although I would favour the away team at the prices on offer.

The one thing I feel we will get from the game is goals as both defences provide many opportunities for their opponents to score goals.

Blackburn have scored in all but one of their away games in the League so far this season and will surely be confident that they will hit the back of the net considering Wolves are conceding at least 2 goals in their last 6 home games in the Premier League.

The Wolves defending last week at Fulham was truly atrocious, yet I think they will also be under pressure to attack at home with the massive prize of three points on offer.

Blackburn themselves do give teams chances and Wolves have the likes of Kevin Doyle and Steven Fletcher that are capable of finding the back of the net.

With the expectation of some poor defending likely to be on show, I am going to back the Overs in this relegation scrap too, even if I think the layers have cottoned on to the fact that these teams happen to be involved in some high scoring games.
