Match Preview :
Boxing Day results saw Manchester United win 5-0 against Wigan while Manchester City could only managed a goalless draw against West Brom, that puts the two Manchester level on points which means even a draw against Blackburn can put Man United top of the standings.
Despite Blackburn's poor record of only one victory in their last 18 Premier League away games, Blackburn will head to Old Trafford in confident mood after holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw on Monday Night Football.
It was not enough to take Rovers out of the bottom of the standings but it could have injected confidence into his injury-hit side.
Rovers do not need to be reminded that this is the grounds where they were beaten 7-1 in which Dimitar Berbatov scored five goals past them. But this time around Berbatov is not guaranteed a starting spot as Wayne Rooney is pushing for a recall after appearing as a substitute against the Wigan.
For the record, United remain the only team to have scored in every game this season thus far.
Team News :
Manchester United Team News :
Michael Owen is still out injured, while Ashley Young, Anderson, Darren Fletcher and Tom Cleverley are missing from United's midfield.
Defence is also a major concern for United after Michael Carrick started at centre-half, and Antonio Valencia at right-back, in the big win over Wigan.
Jonny Evans was then forced off at half-time, leaving Patrice Evra to partner Carrick, with youngster Ezekiel Fryers forced to come on as a substitute at left-back.
Evans is out for a couple of weeks to join Nemanja Vidic on the treatment table, while Chris Smalling will miss out due to tonsillitis after Ferguson dismissed reports the England international was suffering from glandular fever.
Phil Jones could start out against his old club, and probably partner Carrick, while Rio Ferdinand has a chance of starting from the bench.
Blackburn Rovers Team News :
Defence is the main area of concern for Kean ahead of the game as he has a big injury list as well. Gael Givet, Ryan Nelsen, Scott Dann and Michel Salgado will all miss out, while first-choice goalkeeper Paul Robinson is also out of this clash.
Matt Burn did well against Liverpool in goal and he will be severely tested by the United's strikers this time.
Kean is hoping Martin Olsson can return from a hamstring injury, while David Dunn and Junior Hoilett will have their respective hamstring problems checked prior to kickoff.
