English League Two
2011-12-30 - Hereford United vs Accrington Stanley
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – League Two
Friday 30th December 2011 – Kickoff: 1945hrs
Relegation-haunted Hereford United take on a strong Accrington Stanley unit who will be pushing for their fifth successive League Two win on Friday night at Edgar Street.
Hereford United
Hereford currently sit in 21st place just one point above the bottom two clubs Northampton Town and Plymouth Argyle, and what’s worse is that they are on a miserable run of seven matches without a league win.
The Bulls’ home record stands at 3-1-8 11/25, and they’ll be looking to halt a run of three successive defeats on home turf following losses to Burton Albion, Rotherham United and Port Vale.
Despite a mini hiatus where they strung together a four match unbeaten run in October, drawing 3-3 at Swindon Town then following that result up with three straight wins over Bradford City, Barnet and Northampton Town, The Bulls have sunk again and are looking again for inspiration.
Scoring goals has been the problem for Hereford, with only Aldershot Town (10) scoring fewer at home. Nineteen year-old striker Tom Barkhuizen (7 goals, 1 assist) leads their scoring, but appears to have little else in support which is a heavy load for a youngster up front.
Nathan Elder, Delroy Facey and Yoann Arquin (all 2 goals each) have all chipped in but without greater impetus in attack, I fear for Hereford’s safety and football league status once again.
Accrington Stanley
Accrington Stanley pulled off a great result at Morecambe on Boxing Day which bought home the biccies for me at decent odds, and once again I notice that the bookies have left the proverbial back door ajar for us to exploit and make some money again hopefully.
Stanley have now won their last four on the trot; Dagenham, AFC Wimbledon, Torquay and Morecambe, conceding just 2 goals and scoring 10 in the process. Indeed their unbeaten run stretches to seven matches which also includes draws at Crawley Town and Macclesfield along with a win over Bristol Rovers.
Their away form stands at 2-7-2 11/12, and I’m sure they would have liked more wins in the W column, but these will come in fixtures like this where their superior organisation and attacking outlets come into play.
Striker Padraig Amond (4 goals, 3 assists) leads, and is backed up by Kevin Long (3 goals, 1 assist), Peter Murphy and Jayden Stockley (3 goals apiece also), along with former Birmingham City midfielder Bryan Hughes who really should dictate proceedings in midfield at this level. Useful midfielders Luke Joyce (3 assists) and Charlie Bennett (4 assists) can also create chances.
The Betting Verdict :
Hereford appear to be keeping their heads above water (just) judging by results against the clubs around them, but this should be a comfortable point (at the very least) for Accrington Stanley, but I’ll take them with the round ball in the hope for a win.
Stanley to nick it 1-0.
