2011-12-18 - Aston Villa vs Liverpool
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Match Preview :
Both sides will be hoping to make it consecutive wins when Aston Villa welcome Liverpool at Villa Park for the second match of Super Sunday.
Alex McLeish's side secured a 2-1 win at Bolton last weekend while Liverpool beat QPR 1-0 at Anfield.
Villa knows that history is not on their side as they have managed just one win in 13 attempts against Liverpool. That win came last season with Stewart Downing, who has since joined Liverpool, scoring the only goal of the game.
Aston Villa needed to go as far back to the 1997/98 campaign for their previous win when Stan Collymore scored a double over the Reds.
It has to be said that Liverpool have done a wonderful job when playing against Villa at Villa Park, conceding only four goals in their last 12 league trips since a 4-2 win in November 1998.
Team News :
Aston Villa Team News :
Villa will be without joint top scorer Gabriel Agbonlahor as he is serving a one-match suspension for collecting five yellow cards.
Therefore, Emile Heskey or Nathan Delfouneso will be looking to replace him in the side although Barry Bannan could be recalled if McLeish opts for a five-man midfield.
Meanwhile, former Sunderland striker Darren Bent is sure to retain his starting place as he is Villa's joint top-scorer. Interestingly, he also has three goals in his last four Premier League games against Liverpool.
Midfielder Fabian Delph is available after missing last weekend's victory at the Reebok Stadium with a knee injury which means that defender Eric Lichaj (hip) is Villa's only long-term casualty.
Liverpool Team News :
For Liverpool, Jordan Henderson looks likely to continue as Charlie Adam's partner in central midfield for this match.
The casualties for Liverpool are Jay Spearing who serves the second of a two-match ban while Steven Gerrard (ankle) has not played since late October and Lucas (knee) is out for the season.
Downing is set to face the club he left in the summer while Maxi Rodriguez will be hoping to make successive league starts for the first time since May.
