2011-12-11 - Sunderland vs Blackburn
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Match Preview :
Martin O'Neill begins his spell as new Sunderland manager as they welcome fellow strugglers Blackburn to the Stadium of Light.
O'Neill was brought in to replace Steve Bruce last week and was in the stands as his new side slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Wolves last Sunday. His first task will be to instill the belief and confidence in his side for his first game in charge against a Rovers side sitting just one point and one place behind the Black Cats in 18th position in the Premiership.
It will not be straight forward against Blackburn who managed to beat Swansea 4-2 at Ewood Park last time out, with hot-shot Yakubu Aiyegbeni scoring all four goals. Steve Kean was delighted with the win and he will now aim to guide his side to their first win on their travels this season.

Sunderland Team News :
O'Neill has several injury concerns ahead of his opening game in charge of the home side. Striker Nicklas Bendtner has not trained all week because of a groin problem while defender Phil Bardsley has suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury, but O'Neill is hoping both will be fit to start.
Midfielder Lee Cattermole will miss out through suspension after picking up five yellow cards along with striker Connor Wickham (knee) and goalkeepers Simon Mignolet (fractured nose and eye socket) and Craig Gordon (knee).
Blackburn Rovers Team News :
Blackburn boss Steve Kean could keep the same side that beat Swansea in their last match. Key defender Christopher Samba returned from injury for the win, while Junior Hoilett was able to play after recovering from a virus which had ruled him out of the Carling Cup defeat to Cardiff.
Meanwhile, Steven Nzonzi serves the final game of his three-match suspension and Ryan Nelsen is still short of match fitness. Martin Olsson will have a fitness test on Saturday to see if he can make the squad, while Ruben Rochina is battling to be fit.
The good news is that Michel Salgado is expected to be fit, but Vince Grella is still missing.
