English League One
2011-11-19 - Leyton Orient vs Stevenage
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – League One
Saturday 19th November 2011 – Kickoff: 1500hrs
The Matchroom Stadium is the next stop with Leyton Orient hosting a Stevenage Borough side who are just on the fringes of the top six and are looking for their fourth successive win.
Leyton Orient
Despite sitting in 18th position in League One, the O’s have put together an unbeaten run of eight matches with wins over Preston NE, Scnthorpe United, Bury and Rochdale, but with respect, they are all teams in the lower half of the division and will face a much tougher test with the visit of Stevenage on Saturday.
The O’s are 2-2-5 9/15 at home with only Preston (18) and Carlisle United (16) conceding more goals at home than them. In turn, they’ve only managed 9 goals to date also on home turf and this could be an important factor.
Midfielder Dean Cox (6 goals, 4 assists) is their leading scorer, with fellow midfielders David Mooney (3 goals, 3 assists) and Jimmy Smith (3 assists) in support, while Leyton Orient will be wanting a greater return from Charlie Daniels who provided 12 assists last season.
Stevenage Borough
Visitors Stevenage will be wanting their fourth win on the trot to lift them up into the top six when they travel to Leyton.
Stevenage have already recorded wins over three of the top six with wins over Sheffield Wednesday 5-1, Charlton Athletic 1-0 (the only side to beat the league leaders so far) and 2-1 against Sheffield United. All of these wins have come at home, sure, but there’s enough about their away form that suggests they could be competing for a play-off place later in the season.
Stevenage’s away record stands at 3-2-3 9/8 and have recorded back-to-back wins at Brentford and Bury recently. They also beat Hartlepool United 1-0 away last weekend in the first round of the FA Cup so they’re no slouches on the road.
Again, Stevenage are not the most prolific goalscorers in the division, but their defence generally keep it tight at the back. Forward Craig Reid and midfielder Chris Beardsley (4 goals apiece) are the joint leading scorers, along with Mark Roberts and Scott Laird (3 goals each) and Lawrie Wilson chipping in with 4 assists.
The Betting Verdict :
I’m not anticipating this to be a high-scoring match, but I think Stevenage have enough to just about edge this one; a 1-0 win for Stevenage, but will take them with the handicap again.
