Birmingham City take on Peterborough United at St Andrews on Saturday afternoon and will be looking to preserve their unbeaten home record going into this match.
Birmingham City
Whilst the international break was a hindrance to some teams, Birmingham will have welcomed the break as a run of three matches without a win in all competitions can easily turn into something a bit more sinister. The 0-0 and 2-2 draws at home to Brighton and Club Brugge respectively, along with a 0-1 loss at Reading meant that Chris Hughton’s men needed a tonic.
At home, the Blues have been very solid indeed with a record of 4-2-0 8/1, and now host a Peterborough side who are capable of scoring and conceding in equal measure. Birmingham have also improved on that front too though with strikers Chris Wood, Adam Rooney and a fast-approaching-to-fitness Nikola Zigic in their ranks, along with creative midfielders Wade Elliott, Chris Burke and Jean Beausejour.
Similar to season before last though, it’s their defence that have once again been impressive with five shut-outs out of a total of six in their home league matches to date.
Peterborough United
But keeping a clean sheet is something that Peterborough can only dream of; they have conceded in all of their sixteen league matches so far, and only Doncaster Rovers (17) have conceded more away goals than them.
Posh’s away record reads 2-1-5 11/15, and they will travel to Birmingham looking to halt a run of two losses on the bounce away from home with losses at Watford 2-3 and Southampton 1-2. Prior to the break though, they beat Derby County 3-2 at London Road.
Peterborough have numerous outlets going forward with leading scorer Grant McCann (7 goals, 2 assists), Lee Frecklington, Emile Sinclair and Lee Tomlin (4 goals each) and Paul Taylor (5 goals) all knowing their way to goal. Forward George Boyd (4 assists) has provided the bulk of the ammunition to date.
The Betting Verdict :
Birmingham appear to have the upper hand with home advantage and a stronger defence so I’m tipping them for the straight win in this one, with Peterborough conceding again; 2-1 to Birmingham City.
