2011-10-29 - Millwall vs Ipswich Town

Football : English Championship
Saturday 29 October 2011 - Kickoff 3pm
Millwall
After a really slow start to the season, there are signs that things are beginning to turn around at the New Den following an impressive 0-3 win at Leicester City last weekend, although they did get by with a lot of luck during that game. Kenny Jackett retains the support of the home crowd who appreciate all the good work he has done in his time at the club.
Millwall moved up to 20th in the League table following that win last week and they now have 12 points from their first 13 games this season. That was only their 2nd win this season, but they have remained tough to beat at the New Den where they are 1-4-1 this season, scoring 5 goals and conceding 4.
The team are now unbeaten in 3 games in a row after going through a very sticky patch of 4 straight defeats in all competitions. There is a worry about a lack of goals in the side, as Millwall have scored just 1 goal in their last 4 games in the Championship in front of their own fans.
Josh McQuoid is back in the squad for this game having scored in a reserve game during the week. Therry Racon is also back in the squad after missing every game since the beginning of the season.
Ipswich Town
Paul Jewell will be hoping his side can bounce back from a disappointing 0-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Portman Road last week and reignite their push up the table. It is funny to think this side have taken some real hammerings this season, including a 2-5 home loss to Southampton and a 7-1 loss at Peterborough, yet they are well in the mix with the leading teams in the Championship.
The loss to Palace dropped Ipswich to 10th in the table, but they have gained 20 points this season meaning they are only 7 points from Southampton at the top of the table. They are 2-2-2 away from home this season, scoring 7 goals and conceding 11.
The Tractor Boys had been unbeaten in 6 games since losing at Blackpool in the League before that was snapped by Palace last week. Ipswich had won 4 of their previous 6 games to rapidly move up the table, although they have only won 1 of their last 5 away games.
Ibrahima Sonko and Damien Delaney are both expected to play a part in this game after coming through injury worries, while Aaron Cresswell is suspended after being sent off last week.
Head to Head
Millwall beat Ipswich here 2-1 last season, but Ipswich had won on their previous 2 visits to this part of the Capital.
The last 4 games played between the teams at the New Den have all seen at least 3 goals scored.
Prediction
These two sides have been involved in some high scoring games this season as both teams have struggled defensively.
Ipswich were definitely in better form up to the defeat last week, while Millwall have been improving after a really bad patch a few weeks ago.
I am going to back this game to a have a few goals in it as recent history shows they have both been scoring goals against one another, with more than half of their last 10 games ending with 3 goals or more.
Millwall have struggled for goals at home recently, but they will be boosted by the return of McQuoid, while Ipswich have not had the best defence this season. The Tractor Boys are also capable of scoring a goal or two themselves, and the 2.10 on the 'Over 2.5 Goals' looks a little high to me.
