Sunderland scored a fantastic win at Bolton last week, taking 3 points thanks to that 2-0 performance. Since then, they have had the week to rest and prepare for this one. The same goes for Aston Villa, except they suffered a loss away from home last weekend.

Both sides have just 2 wins each, but Villa sit higher on the table as a result of having lost fewer games than Sunderland. Last season, both meetings were won by Sunderland by a score of 1-0.

Aston Villa come up to Sunderland eager to bounce back from their recent defeats. Last weekend they led West Bromwich 1-0 before a sending off scuppered their plans. The Baggies took advantage and won 2-1, which means Villa are in bounce back mode here. They have the weapons to do damage, no doubt, with the likes of Agbonlahor and of course Bent always a danger.
