2011-10-19 - Leicester City vs Watford

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

LEICESTER CITY v WATFORD
Football – England – Championship
Wednesday 19th October 2011 – Kickoff: 1945hrs

Leicester City will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host struggling Watford at the Walkers Stadium in Wednesday night’s only Championship fixture.

Leicester City

Leicester City’s impressive seven-match unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon at St Andrews as Birmingham City struck twice in the second half to secure an important three points for Chris Hughton’s side. Sven will be keen for his charges to revert to type on home soil as they prepare for the visit of Watford.

The Foxes have a home record of 3-0-2 9/6, which on first glance isn’t exactly brilliant but consider the fact that their three home wins have been over leaders Southampton 3-2, Brighton 1-0 and efficiently dealing with local rivals Derby County 4-0.

Key personnel include David Nugent (3 goals), Darius Vassell (2 goals), Gelson Fernandes (2 assists) and Neil Danns (2 assists).

Also keep in mind Leicester’s head-to-head history against Watford – a home record of 7-4-2 30/17, with the Foxes having the wood over their opponents in recent times with successive victories of 4-2, 4-1 and 4-1.

Leicester also have the motivation of taking all three points in this one to perhaps propel them into a top six place, depending on Tuesday night’s results.

Watford

Sean Dyche’s Watford currently sit in 20th place following their 0-2 reverse to Crystal Palace on Saturday and it’s now just one win in their last five league matches which was a 2-1 home win over fellow Championship strugglers Millwall.

The Hornets’ away record stands at 1-3-1 5/7, with their solitary win coming at Reading in mid-September and have since drawn at Barnsley 1-1 and thrashed 0-4 at Southampton. Not that poor performances are exclusive to their away trips either; their home record leaves much to be desired which stands at 1-1-4 4/11, and are quite frankly, mid-table material currently.

In attack, Danny Graham has since departed but Marvin Sordell (2 goals) remains, but replacement signing Chris Iwelumo (signed from Burnley) has yet to hit the kind of form he showed at Wolves a couple of seasons ago in the Championship where he hit 14 goals and 4 assists.

But the Hornets do have Wolves winger Michael Kightly on loan and he can certainly make a difference in terms of creative spark...and they really do need that spark right now!

The Betting verdict :

All in all, Leicester really should win this one and undoubtedly possess greater depth and quality in personnel, they just have to show us now ...

I’ll take Leicester City with the handicap which they should cover comfortably.

The Pick :

Leicester City to win 2-0.
