Texas won a very tough match yesterday to take a 2-0 lead in the AL Championship Series and now the 2 teams will play in Detroit. Yesterdays game was tied at 3-3 but in the 11th inning Nelson Cruz did what no other team has ever done in a postseason match. He nailed a grandslam for a walkoff win.
Not many teams come back from 2-0 down in a best of 7 series, but Detroit at least play this one at home, and so have a good chance to claw their way back tonight with a win.
The Texas Rangers will send right-handed Colby Lewis to the hill tonight. He is 14-10 with a 4.40ERA. He's pitching decently but has not done well against Detroit this season at all! In 2 starts, he is 0-1 with a horrible 15.95ERA! He gave up 20 hits in just over 7 innings of work combined, and saw 5 of his pitches get hit for homeruns. Alex Avila hit 2 of them, so keep an eye on the Tiger.
The Detroit Tigers also send out a righty, Doug Fister. He is 11-13 with a 2.83ERA. Fister went 8-1 in 10 starts for the Tigers this year and owned a miserly 1.79ERA. He was instrumental in helping the Tigers knock out the Yankees too, giving up just 1 run over 5 innings in Game 5 as they won 3-2 at Yankee Stadium.
Fister is excellent at home. He has started 5 games for the Tigers here and has gone 4-0 with a 0.98ERA!
BETTING VERDICT
That was a huge win for Texas yesterday, and it came in emotional circumstances. It also gave them a 2-0 lead and they might not be able to concentrate as well today. I smell a letdown and with the Tigers always a danger, I'm going to bet on them to win at home tonight.
