Tottenham tore Liverpool apart at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon, with Adebayor scoring yet again. It was only his 2nd game wearing a shirt with an emblem aptly describing him and his first in front of his new footballing family. He did not disappoint them.
Spurs did have things go their way though as Liverpool played almost the entire match with at least a man disadvantage before a 2nd red card made it 11 on 9 and at that point it really wasn't a contest. I don't expect to see them have an easy match here though.
Harry Redknapp has been talking about all the injuries his side are dealing with, and also there is the problem of playing in Europe too. Of all the 4 tournaments his side are in, this one is the least important and he will not be interested in having this affect the other games coming up. With fatigue a serious issue, I expect to see him rotate his squad a bit.
Stoke are at home here, where they tend to make life hell for their opponents. In the very first game of the season, Stoke held Chelsea to a goalless draw up here, so they are quite capable of keeping Tottenham quiet too. Tony Pulis' side are also a very decent cup side, with Stoke reaching the FA Cup final last season, only to lose to a superior Manchester City.
Of course, while Tottenham won 4-0, Stoke lost by the same scoreline here against Sunderland. However, Peter Crouch, Rory Delap, Matthew Etherington and Marc Wilson are all back from injury and should get playing time here against a Tottenham side that is also playing it's 3rd game in 6 days.
The biggest weakness for Spurs here will be their keeper, as it seems Redknapp is going to stick Gomes between the posts.
BETTING VERDICT
Huge value on Stoke, in my opinion. Everyone will be looking at that 4-0 win for Spurs and the price on the home team has shot up after they went down 4-0. Spurs scored only 1 goal when it was 11 on 11 and the other 3 goals came when they were playing 11 against 9. Also, that game was played down at the Lane.
Stoke should be able to frustrate Spurs here and gain a draw at the very least. Bets on Stoke level ball are the safest option in my opinion, paying even money at Pinnacle. I'm going to go for a value bet here, albeit riskier, and taking Stoke to win it over 90 minutes. Fingers crossed!
