What a start by Manchester United. It's now 6 wins from 6 and when you consider they have already played 3 of the teams in the top 5 last season, that is impressive. Alex Fergusons young team have plundered 21 goals, thanks mostly to Wayne Rooney, and conceded just 4. Following their huge win over title rivals Chelsea, they know travel to face the old enemy.
Ferguson might not take this competition seriously, but he knows how much the rivalry means. Recently, Leeds scored a win over Manchester United in cup competition and will no doubt be looking forward to this one, especially since they have had an extra day of rest, and are at home.
While the Red Devils sit atop the Premier League table, Leeds have also started the season well. They have not lost at Elland Road since the 2nd game of the season and come in here off back to back home wins over Crystal Palace and Bristol City.
Ferguson is set to give Michael Owen a rare start here, and I imagine a lot of young player will also get a run out to give the more established stars a rest after their amazing, and no doubt tiring, start to the season. I do expect to see a few established players play though, like Giggs and Park. Perhaps even Berbatov and Valencia.
Leeds will not have defender Paddy Kisnorbo available for this one as he is suspended following his straight red against Bristol over the weekend. Simon Grayson will have a look at the likes of Leigh Bromby and Alex Bruce to see if they are worth bringing in for this big match but should be stress free as he has a fairly fit team to choose from.
BETTING VERDICT
I thought this might go Over but then on reflection thought that is what everyone would go for without thinking. I mean, United have been scoring for fun so why not here? Well, they're going to get a tough game here because it means a lot to Leeds. United will not be looking to go nuts and will want to avoid defeat to their rivals.
Expect a lot of fierce defence and any goals that do come will have been gotten after a lot of hard work. With the best player for United out, and the Over bet all the way down to 1.45, I think there is a lot of value on the Under. This might just lose by a goal, or two.....but it's bloody good value. Keep stakes small and good luck.
