English League Two
2011-09-17 - Dagenham & Redbridge vs Morecambe
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football – England – League Two
Saturday 17th September 2011 – Kickoff: 1500hrs
Dagenham entertain league leaders Morecambe on Saturday afternoon and will be aiming to stem a flow of three straight losses which has seen them drop to 17th place early in the piece.
Dagenham & Redbridge
The Daggers have suffered three reverses to Hereford United 0-1, Rotherham United 1-3 and then at home 0-1 to improving Oxford United midweek.
Needless to say The Daggers’ home record isn’t anything to be scared of 1-1-2 2/4, so a visit from the league leaders will certainly be a test to their character.
Goals have also been at a premium this season at the Dagenham Stadium so far with a return of just 5 goals in total in 8 matches played. Only Hereford United and Plymouth Argyle (3 goals apiece) have scored fewer to date.
Striker Jon Nurse will need to be watched however, as too Gavin Tomlin, the midfielder chipping in with 3 assists so far. Sam Williams and Mark Arber are also important players in the middle of the park for The Daggers.
Morecambe
Visitors Morecambe are enjoying their best start to a season for some years and currently occupy top spot for their performances which included a statement of some considerable intent when they dusted off big-spending newcomers Crawley Town 6-0.
Morecambe's wins have also extended to their road trips as well with wins at Hereford United 3-0, 2-1 at Cheltenham Town, 2-0 at Northampton Town and a recent draw at Macclesfield 1-1 midweek.
The Shrimps’ away record therefore stands at an impressive 3-1-0 8/2, and have the best defensive record away from home along with Torquay United. Forward Danny Carlton (5 goals) leads the way but has found support in Kevin Ellison (3 goals), Lawrence Wilson and Phil Jeavons (2 goals apiece).
Creativity has been supplied by Izak Reid (3 assists) and Gary McDonald (2 assists) and this unit have put some convincing performances together.
Head to head
Dagenham have had the upper hand in their recent meetings with Morecambe no less so than their crushing 6-0 victory inflicted over the seasiders back in May last year which Morecambe will be keen to avenge.
The Betting Verdict
This term Morecambe have come out of the blocks quickly and possess a greater depth in creativity and scoring potential, and together with Dagenham’s apparent inability to score goals at the moment, I’m going to back the visitors here but with the round ball as cover.
The Pick :
Dagenham 1-2 Morecambe
