Roberto Martinez will come face to face with Swansea, the club which he led to promotion to the Championships back in 2008, but the following year he left to take charge of Wigan. They did met last season in the Carling Club with Martinez getting the better of his former side with a 2-0 win.
Swansea had the worst possible start to their campaign after going down 4-0 away to Manchester City on the opening day of the season. Wigan on the other hand managed a 1-1 draw with newly promoted side Norwich.
The early signs are that these two clubs will be battling against relegation come end season, so Swans boss Brendan Rodgers and Martinez will be hoping to gain the better of each other as they clash in this encounter.
Team News for Swansea v Wigan :
Swansea City captain Garry Monk is rated doubtful for this match once again. The defender missed Monday's defeat at Man City due to a foot problem, but managed a full game for the reserves in midweek. Manager Rodgers is set to see whether Monk has any after effects before deciding to name him in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, left-back Neil Taylor is available again after completing the three-match suspension he received for his red card in the play-off semi-final first leg at Nottingham Forest.
For the visitors Wigan Athletic, they will miss defender Steve Gohouri as he continues his recovery from a calf problem. Martinez may be tempted to start with striker Hugo Rodallega despite not fully fit after his Cope America assertions with Colombia.
Antolin Alcaraz, who reached the final with Paraguay, could start this match however. James McCarthy had an injection in his ankle to enable him to play in last week's draw with Norwich and should start once again.
Nouha Dicko, their new signing will not be considered for first team action for this match as he is lacking fitness.
