Match Preview :
By the time the Gunners welcome Liverpool for this match they could be without Samir Nasri, after already having sold Cesc Fabragas to Barcelona. Arsene Wenger faces his most difficult period as manager of Arsenal in his 15 years in charge of Arsenal and his club are being seen as a club in crisis with the sale of their top two players which is now almost inevitable.
It was hardly surprising that some of their faithful fans have turned on Arsene Wenger chanting "spend some money" during the match with Newcastle which ended goalless. Despite beating Udinese 1-0 in the Champions League play-offs their performance was not convincing to say the least so a good performance against Liverpool will be what the fans are expecting to see.
As for Liverpool, they got off a poor start themselves with a 1-1 draw at home against Sunderland, despite scoring first. Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Jose Enrique all started the match but did not made a good impression. Kenny Daglish will be trying for the 12th time to get a win here after a controversial draw with the Gunners back in April.
Team News :
Jack Wilshere is set to miss the game for Arsenal and is 50-50 for Wednesday night's Champions League return leg clash with Udinese in Italy. Wilshere was on Thursday still undergoing treatment on his troublesome ankle injury and it was earlier hope that he could recover in time for the match. Arsene Wenger paid the price for last weekend's opener at Newcastle with new striker Gervinho sent off and midfielder Alex Song having to start his three match bans on Saturday as well.
Then in midweek against Udinese, Arsenal saw Kieran Gibbs and substitute Johan Djourou both limp off with hamstring strains, joining Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Armand Traore on the sidelines. This means we could see summer signing Carl Jenkinson starting in the unfamilar position of left back against Liverpool.
For Liverpool, Captain Steven Gerrard continues his recovery from his groin problem and misses out while defender Glen Johnson is an injury doubt for the visitors. England full-back Johnson missed last week's opening match with a hamstring injury and manager Dalglish admits he is the only doubt for their trip to The Emirates Stadium. Changes are expected to be made from the first match with Martin Kelly and Dirk Kuyt pushing for starting spots replacing John Flanagan and Henderson in the side.
Possible lineups :
Arsenal : Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Jenkinson, Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Chamakh, Van Persie.
Liverpool : Reina, Kelly, Agger, Carragher, Enrique, Lucas, Adam, Kuyt, Downing, Suarez, Carroll.
Last 5 matches :
Arsenal: WLLDD
Liverpool: WWLLD
Prediction :
Even though many are going for Liverpool to get the better of Arsenal as they will be morally weakened by the absence of the two players, the stats have shown that Liverpool have failed to beat Arsenal in 11 games at Arsenal's home grounds.
I will go for Arsenal on LEVEL ball not to lose this match.
Cheers and good luck,
Cruiser
