Swansea City carry the hopes of a country in the the top flight this season, but will have to work much much harder to stay for more than just 1 term. Last week, in their opener, Swansea went to Manchester and lost 4-0 to the expensively assembled City side. It was a result most of us expected, but the way it unfolded was not.

Swansea let in a boatload, but it wasn't until the first one went in that they capitulated. Most teams losing by a goal at that stage will have to chase the game and against the likes of Manchester City, or any team with an explosive offence, they were likely to let in more while looking for the equaliser. The impressive thing is that Swansea did manage to hold Manchester City for almost an hour. I will not read a lot into that drumming.

Some key points. Swansea will be playing their first Premier League game at home, in front of what will be an incredible atmosphere. They are dangerous here too, as anyone who followed the Championship last season will tell you. Swansea took more points at home than anyone else, and had more wins at home than anyone else. It was their away form that let them down, which is why despite their amazing home record, they missed out to QPR on 1st place.

Anyway, on the other side we have Wigan. Every year they barely hang on to their place in the top flight towards the end of the season and while that is good for them, they are still poor. They are on the road here, and stats will tell you no team scored fewer goals away from home than Wigan last year. Apart from Birmingham, who are now in the Championship.

BETTING VERDICT

I can see Swansea winning this, actually. And the price on that is 2.14 on Pinnacle and well worth taking.

However, by taking the Over 2.25 we are safer, as there is a chance of Wigan grabbing one against the Premier League newbies, who might suffer from nerves as this is a historic match for them.

Swansea seem good for at least 2 goals and that will do for me.
