PREVIEW
After that long game on Sunday, spanning 16 innings, Boston hammered Baltimore for 15 runs last night on 16 hits. They also gave up 10 runs themselves. I've a feeling we'll see more runs tonight.
Well I was wrong about Baltimore in that they did manage to keep up the run scoring trend they began in their last 2 matches with Cleveland. They scored 10 runs but got tagged for 5 more and so lost. They have a very good chance of scoring heavily again as a familiar face takes the mound for Boston.
Right-handed rookie Kyle Weiland will pitch for Boston today, and he is bound to have some psychological scars from his MLB debut. It came against Baltimore and by his 0-1 record and 13.50ERA it's clear it was far from purty. 6 runs on 8 hits in just 4 innings and there was just time to hit a batter with a pitch before he got pulled. No pressure Kyle.
Boston won 8-6 but that Weiland gave up all 6 in one inning is worrying. JJ Hardy hit a homer yesterday for the suddenly firing Orioles and the shortstop might have success again tonight as his team try for the win. Behind Weiland is a bullpen that has been run ragged. They had to step in yesterday in the 5th inning and had already had a long night the day before. Baltimore won't have a chance like this again.
The Orioles will send out Jeremy Guthrie. The righty has a 3-13 mark with a 4.45ERA so far and is not to be relied on to keep Boston quiet. Over his career he has been battered by them, going 1-8 with a 4.55ERA. Boston could easily score 10 again here as Guthrie is on a horrible run. In his last 6 outings he has given up 25 earned runs in just over 32 innings, meaning an ERA of almost 7.00! In fact, his last 8 starts at home have all resulted in games that went over the total.
TEAM STATS
Boston Red Sox
Overall 58-36, Streak W3
Baltimore Orioles
Overall 38-55, Streak L1
BETTING VERDICT
Both teams could topple the total just by themselves. To expect 5 each from them looks more than reasonable. Take the Over.
The Pick :
Over 10 runs to be scored!
