Semi Final 2nd Leg
Wednesday 11th May 2011 – Kickoff 7.45pm
AFC Wimbledon are just ninety minutes away from booking their final place with their opponents looking most likely to be Luton Town as they prepare for the visit of Fleetwood Town in the second leg of their play-off semi final on Wednesday night at their Cherry Red Records Stadium.
AFC Wimbledon
Wimbledon hold an important 2-0 lead going into this fixture after winning the first leg.
The Dons have maintained their impressive form throughout this campaign particularly at home where their record stands at 17-3-3 46/15 with only Crawley Town winning more home matches. Their defence has also been strong conceding just 15, and this will again stand them in good stead for the visit of Fleetwood Town.
Wimbledon have won their last four at home during the regulation season with wins over Rushden & Diamonds, Barrow, Mansfield Town and Grimsby Town. They also saw off Fleetwood earlier in the season with the Wombles winning 1-0 back in February.
Striker Danny Kedwell (23 goals, 10 assists) has had an amazing season, along with Christian Jolley (12 goals), Luke Moore (8 goals, 8 assists) with Sam Hatton (8 assists) and Ricky Wellard (6 assists) providing the ammunition.
The Dons have met with Fleetwood Town on three previous occasions and the Dons have not lost yet; winning 2-0 and 1-0, along with a 1-1 draw earlier in the season.
Fleetwood Town
Fleetwood Town have had an amazing season which sadly looks like coming to an end along with their dreams of back-to-back promotions into the football league unless they conjure up something special on Wednesday night.
Micky Mellon's men will be pressing forward from the whistle as they look to overhaul a two-goal deficit but it won’t be an easy task as AFC Wimbledon have kept 12 clean sheets out of 23 home matches so far this season.
The Cod Army's away record resembles their almost gung-ho approach with their most likely results being either a win or a loss; 10-4-9 33/23, but they do possess some dangerous players like striker Magno Vieira (22 goals, 4 assists), Gareth Seddon (10 goals, 3 assists), with winger Jamie Mullan (5 assists) providing the bulk of their creativity.
Unfortunately, the departures of Ian Craney and Wayne Curtis (both with 5 assists each) have left a bit of a hole in their attacking locker.
