Match Analysis :
Fiorentina will have their backs against the wall as they face A.C Milan a team who they have a poor record against and a player who always scores against them in Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
They come into this match unbeaten in their last six game but have drawn their last two games - drawing 2-2 at Cesena. That have been their longest run they have remained unbeaten in 18 months now.
But it has to be said they had to rely on Artur Boruc’s saves to prevent a defeat in their last match. There were allegations the players were distracted after the International break as well as transfer rumours.
Their preparations ahead of this match has not been ideal with Adrian Mutu being suspended and hopes are on Adem Ljajic’s shoulders to break through the Milan defence. Sebastien Frey also joins on the bench. However, Stevan Jovetic is in Germany as he finalises his rehabilitation from injury.
Milan will look to continue their impressive win over Inter with another three points here. They visit the groun they have won on their last three occasions. The last time they lost here was some six years ago.
After the win over Inter they have a healthy lead at the top, but they will be keen to maintain their lead over Inter and Napoli. This will be the first of three test for Milan, the other two will be with Roma and Udinese.
There has been talk that Nesta is set to retire soon with Philippe Mexes set to come in from A.S Roma. There has also been speculation of Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Henrique Ganso transfers. This means that Massimiliano Allegri’s task is one of psychological rather then just tactical with the team.
As for the team news, Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns, Antonio Cassano is suspended whilst Filippo Inzaghi and Daniele Bonera are still recovering. Massimo Ambrosini could start from the bench after light training this week.
However Gennaro Gattuso is doubtful with a thigh strain. Meanwhile, Marek Jankulovski’s season is over, out for six months after undergoing knee surgery this week.
