Skilled Stadium, Geelong
This game sees 0-2 Port travel to the toughest spot on the map, Geelong, looking for a much needed win. The Cats are 2-0 and with more men returning this week they are clearly the 2nd best team in the league after a comeback win over the Saints and a tough road win at Fremantle.
Geelong Cats
The Cats are flying and with more players coming back they are certainly going to be winners here. After a couple of tough matches I think this one will be easier for them and see them go 3-0 before getting right into the season.
Down back Lonergan will miss again after being a bit sore but the main man Matty Scarlett returns after a 1 week suspension. His class through defence will put the other Cats including Josh Hunt and Corey Enright and look for Enright to continue on with his impressive start to the season. Taking into account all stats he would rank in the top 5 players over the first 2 matches this year.
The middle sees Joel Selwood return after a week off with bad concussion and he will be hard to stop alongside James Kelly and Jimmy Bartel. But then the dilemma for Port is what to do with Joel Corey, Travis Varcoe and Paul Chapman. There is still class everywhere and with Ling player as the defensive man they should win it out of the middle.
The forward line once again sees multiple threats in Menzel, Stokes, and the gun player Steve Johnson. The Cats are not usually wasteful so if the ball enters 50 a lot down at Geelong you can expect these blokes to have a field day.
Port Adelaide Power
Awful in their home defeat to the Eagles last week. Most people tipped them and the Power should have been better at home but as they prepare to travel to Geelong I don’t think anyone will be tipping them this week.
Not too much to say about their defence except that it let a low-mid range team in the Eagles score 116 points last week on home turf. Carlile will need to do a good job this week on his direct opponent but I feel no individual will be able to hold out the relentless attack that they will see on Sunday.
The centreline is ok at time with Pearce and Kane Cornes but the question is; is it enough against the Cats midfielders? The answer is a definitive no and with a big disadvantage in the middle I see no ray of light for the Power in this one.
Up forward the Power has Gray and Davenport. These guys are two freaks who can turn a match in 5 minutes. However this will be a game that will be impossible to turn and with defeat a certainty their heads may sink early on in the piece.
The Betting Verdict
The Cats will finally blow out the cobwebs and post a score of over 100 to come away with a solid win.
BEST BETTING TIP :
Take Geelong to win by 40 or over points at 1.66 on Centrebet.
