2011-02-20 - Lecce vs Juventus
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:For the first time this season, Juventus will aim to win three matches in a row when they take on Lecce here.
Juventus knows they must win this match if they are to finish in the top four this season. It must be said that after losing to sides such as Udinese and Palermo, they responded by beating the likes of Cagliari and Inter.
The players who were instrumental to their success have no doubt been Alessandro Matri, Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini. Matri, signed on January deadline day, has now scored three goals in three games for Juventus. Meanwhile, Barzagli, another new addition, has come into the centre of defence which has allowed boss Gigi Del Neri to field Chiellini in the worryingly left back position.
Juventus are closing in on fourth place Lazio as they are just four points away from them. Momo Sissoko is suspended after his booking last week, while Leandro Rinaudo, Fabio Quagliarella and Armand Traore are out with injuries for the home side.
Lecce meanwhile are missing the likes of Alberto Giuliatto, Ofere and Nenad Tomovic, but they have been hampered by suspensions to Gustavo, Ruben Olivera, Jeda and Guillermo Giacomazzi after the 3-2 loss at Catania. Gigi De Canio received a two match touchline ban after his attack on the referee in that match.
Lecce are situtaed just outside of the relegation spot as they are two points above Brescia. They managed a small revival as they collected nine points from a possible 15. However, back to back defeats against Palermo and Catania have pulled them back into the relegation dogfight.
Lecce does not have a good record against Juventus and have only beaten Juventus on three occasions in 35 games in all competitions. Two of those wins have been at the Via Del Mare though.
For the record, the last meeting here in December 2008 saw Juve win 2-1 with goals from Sebastian Giovinco and Amauri. The last draw here was in December 2003 when David Trezeguet netted late on, while Lecce’s last win was in September 1999 thanks to goals from Francisco Lima and Alessandro Conticchio, which seemed like such a long time now.
Take Juventus to win here.
Cheers and good luck,
