2011-01-28 - Millwall vs Barnsley

Football : England : nPower Championship
Friday 28th January 2011 – Kickoff 7.45pm
We are Millwall, no-one likes us, we don't care ... but I do like Millwall and their chances of beating visiting Barnsley when they entertain them at the New Den on Friday nigth.
Millwall
Three points for Millwall on Friday could lift the Lions level with Watford and the edges of the play-off positions, however, The Hornets would then have two games in hand over them.
Anyhow, Millwall are on a roll at home at present and they will be looking to secure their fifth home win on the trot, having recently disposed of Scnthorpe United 3-0, Leicester City 2-0, Crystal Palace 3-0 and Ipswich Town 2-1, scoring 10 goals and conceding just 1.
The Lions home record is therefore pretty solid at 7-3-3 22/12, with striker Steve Morison (10 goals, 3 assists) leading the scoring charts, along with ex-Ipswich Town midfielder Liam Trotter (4 goals, 2 assists), while the creativity has been supplied by midfielder James Henry (2 goals, 5 assists), Danny Schofield (2 goals, 3 assists) and Kevin Lisbie (1 goal, 4 assists) – so you see there are various areas of opportunity for Millwall to create and score.
Barnsley
Visitors Barnsley will be buoyed by their third away win of the season at Doncaster Rovers (2-0) on Tuesday night, but when they take on Millwall, they'll be playing their third match in seven days and you wonder how much The Tykes have left in the tank.
They've not had the best of times on the road as their away stats suggest 3-3-7 13/25, and this has been largely down to inconsistent displays and a defence that has kept a clean sheet only twice on their travels so far; 0-0 at Scunthorpe Utd and the 2-0 win at Doncaster.
Once again, Barnsley are likely to set up with a 4-5-1 formation, but striker Garry O'Connor (3 goals) and the creativity of Kieran Trippier (4 assists) and Goran Lovre (2 goals, 3 assists) will need to be watched. Barnsley are hard to break down at home, but their away form is their Achilles heel I feel.
With reference to conceding goals away from home, only the likes of Crystal Palace (34), Leicester City (31) and Doncaster Rovers (30) have conceded more than Barnsley on their travels, and this could well be their undoing once again when they travel to Millwall.
The Betting Verdict :
Play-off chasing Millwall should be too strong for Barnsley at home, particularly with their greater attacking personnel at their disposal and fresh legs. Millwall to win 2-0.
The Pick :
Millwall 2-0 Barnsley
