2011-01-01 - Liverpool vs Bolton
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson goes into this match knowing that his job is on the line if his side fails to get a win here. The Reds are dangerously close to the relegation zone while their opponents Bolton are looking at qualifying for Europe.
For the fans of Liverpool, they find their side just three points above the bottom three, while Bolton are sitting pretty in sixth. The home fans showed their frustrations after Liverpool were beaten by Wolves 0-1 in their last home match at Anfield.
Then the former Fulham boss then suggested he had not been given the 'famous Anfield support' following his appointment as Rafa Benitez's replacement in the summer. But since then he has clarified that statement.
The eyes of the World will no doubt be watching how Liverpool fare in their first match of 2011 after a truly miserable 2010 that they would want to forget. Liverpool knows they cannot afford to suffer another defeat after their setbacks at the hands of Blackpool and Wolves.
They will be glad that Bolton are coming into this match on a poor away from which has seen them suffer 1-0 defeats to the likes of of Manchester City, Sunderland and Chelsea.
But it has to be said that Bolton were somewhat unlucky to leave Stamford Bridge with nothing to show on Wednesday evening after going down by a slim margin of 1-0.
Liverpool Team News :
As for the team news for the home side, Roy Hodgson will be hoping that captain Steven Gerrard will be fit to start against Bolton after starting against Wolves and that was his first appearance since Mid November. He was extremely tired after playing the full 90 minutes and his condition will be checked before a decision is made.
Their cause has not been helped by the fact that Joe Cole aggravated an ankle problem in training and he has yet to make his mark since his transfer from Chelsea.
Bolton Wanderers Team News :
As for Bolton, they will take a squad of just 15 to Anfield as defender Paul Robinson is suspended following his yellow card against the Blues, while United States midfielder Stuart Holden is expected to miss out due to an injury sustained against Chelsea.
They are missing two important figures as key midfielder Lee Chung-yong is away on Asian Cup duty with South Korea until the end of January, while Tamir Cohen is on compassionate leave following the death of his father.
Gretar Steinsson is still sidelined by a knee injury, while Joey O'Brien, Sean Davis, Ricardo Gardner and Jlloyd Samuel are all absent too.
