BLACKPOOL
Having wiped their arses with the script on opening day of the season, Blackpool are now in 10th place, and are on a roll at the moment, having avoided defeat in their last 4 games. In that time, they have drawn at in-form Bolton, beaten Wolves at home, and come away from Stoke City with all 3 points. Fan-dabby-doosy.
Ian Holloway's side are one of my favourites, and I love watching them play because they really really are enjoying their football. They know what they've achieved is a big deal, so are making the most of every game in the best league in the world, relishing the environment and the opposition, and just going out to play football like they always do, without resorting to any negatives tactics, and it seems they will probably be here with us next year thanks to it.
Apart from their excellent home record of 6 wins and 4 draws, they have also performed away from home, beating Newcastle and Liverpool, in games one would not give them a chance on paper. They play attacking football, and almost always seem to find a way to score. The problem, yep, they tend to concede a bunch too. In London, they have been hit for 6 goals by both Arsenal and Chelsea, and their opponents today, Spurs, are playing better football than both those teams at the moment. So, who's thinking goals?
TOTTENHAM
Someone please make it stop? No matter what happens, Tottenham end up winning. It's infuriating, but true. Spurs are enjoying their best form in, like, forever, and few would bet against them here, even though Blackpool have made it a habit of defying odds and winning when you least expect it.
But, the 5th placed North Londoners do have a weakness. Their defence. Yes they have won away at Arsenal, and scored a bunch against the likes of Inter Milan but the fact is this team lets their opponents score goals. The only reason they've won is they are in cracking form up front. Why does this happen? Because just like Blackpool, Tottenham play attacking football without fear, and just like them, they get hit while doing it. So far they've managed to score more than they're conceding, but look at their record: 25 scored and 22 conceded! Away from home they have scored 11, and conceded 13!
Harry Redknapp will have all his attacking options available here. Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Bale, Modric, Crouch, Lennon. For those that think there is a chance this could stay under, remember that any goal will only fuel the other teams desire to attack, and with that comes more goals, from one team or the other, because they will both be vulnerable and have given us little reason to think they can hold out.
BETTING VERDICT
Tottenham can probably score 3 all on their own, so I suppose the automatic choice is overs. Grab it quick, as prices are plummeting!
And please, don't bet on Spurs. It makes me sad.
