Atletico Madrid
8th Place
Home Record W4 D1 L2 GF14 GA6
Just like the Sevilla game that precedes it, we again have a short priced home side who are in something of a crisis. Atletico have lost 3 in a row, going off at short odds on prices in all three, and with this in mind they rival Sevilla as one of the worst 1/2 on bets of the season.
That said, Atletico should win this. Form is temporary, class is permanent, and Atletico for all their flaws are still a much better side than Depor. They may have lost 2 from the last 3 at home but they still boast a W4 D1 L2 record at the Calderon that contrasts markedly with Depors W1 D2 L4 away form.
Crucially, Atletico are also doing well against bottom half sides, with a W4 D1 L1 GF11 GA4 record home and away.
Defensively, Atleti are a shambles at the moment, a problem that Sanchez Flores looked to have fixed when he came to the club. So despite Depors lack of firepower there is a goal in this game for the visitors.
And that means Ateltico will have to score twice to win, which they usually do against non top 6 opposition.
If Atletico are going to score goals, the usual suspects are Forlan and Aguerro.
Forlan has been hot and cold this season and holds no appeal in the goalscorer markets.
Aguerro, however, is in red hot form. Hes scored in 7 of his last 9 games, despite Atletis poor form. This is a statistic that demands attention for the second favourite, playing at home, at odds against in the anytime goalscorer market.
Deportivo La Coruna
12th Place
Away Record W1 D2 L4 GF3 GA12
Yes the visitors are in good form, yes they have won 4 from the last 6. But 3 of those came at home and their unique brand of anti-football doesnt work quite so well away from Galacia. Their sole away win came at lowly Levante, and they lost their last away game at Santander.
Against top half sides Depor have been poor. W1 D3 L3 GF6 GA12.
It took a late Lassad goal to overcome a Hercules side who cant win away on Monday night.
Depor are one of those attractively opposable away sides...one who are riding unexpectedly high in the table but have a negative goal difference. Much is made of their defensive solidity, and it is impressive, but theyve only let in three more than Atletico who are widely regarded as defensively hopeless. OK, 6 of those came in the rout at the Bernebeu, but on their travels they have also conceded goals at Racing, Levante, Sociedad and Villareal.
Atletico are unbackable at 1.5 in current form, and the draw is a real possibility. But at odds against Ill go with Aguerro to continue his rich vein of scoring form.
Team News
Atletico only miss Assuncao. Deportivo are likely to miss Juca, Adrian, Riki and Ruben Perez. Guardado may return.
