EVERTON
David Moyes will be pleased to see his Everton side out of the relegation zone, and he needs his side to win in order to stay out. The opponents, Wigan, are still in the muck, looking to get out. I have to say like most I fancy Everton to get the long awaited win today.
Everton have not won in over a month. November has come and gone without a win, but close inspection shows a few good results in there, such as the 1-1 draw against champions Chelsea in their last match, and managing to hold high-scoring Bolton to a draw too. The side has lost matches to the likes of Arsenal, but that is to be expected, right? Anyway, this side seems to me on the edge of a breakout win. This is the best chance they are likely to get.
Arteta is probably out for this game but the offence gave a good account of themselves in really giving Chelsea all it could manage. Slump or no slump, they are the champions, and that is why it ended in a draw because most sides would have ended up losing. The Wigan defence is not good enough to deal with Evertons play if they replicate last week, and so Everton's defence will be given the task of shutting out Wigan which will give them the win.
WIGAN
Wigan are 18th as things stand and have shipped a lot of goals so far. 28 is a lot. And they're also on a 4 match losing streak away from home. Their last match saw 4 goals scored but the points shared with Stoke City.
Wigan have taken losses to Manchester United and Arsenal recently, and also to bottom side West Ham. Even in drawing, they shipped 2 goals, and I really feel a similar display will see them lose. Why? Because I can see them scoring only once here, at best. They haven't scored more than once in a league game in like 2 months. Everton's defence put on a proper display last week, and it's filled me with confidence.
Rodellega will return to the side, and the forward's presence has been missed as he served a 3 match ban for getting sent off against Manchester United. The club's top scorer has only 4 to his name though, but then again Wigan have only netted 13 times this season. Yep, shocking.
BETTING VERDICT
Everton will win this, probably by more than 1 if they keep Wigan off the scoresheet.
