WEST HAM UNITED
West Ham are still rooted at the bottom of the table. Last weekend the Hammers lost to Sunderland and suddenly all the joy of that big win over City's neighbours vanished as reality sunk in again. This is a side I have no doubt will be playing Championship football next year.
After the 4-0 Carling Cup win over United, last weeks 1-0 loss was frustrating for Avram Grant. His side have had recent league wins too, against Wigan but they just can't seem to get off the bottom and although he will be buying in the transfer market, he still has to go through a very busy December which could see his team buried before he gets the chance to bring in some new blood.
Captain Scott Parker and Frederic Piquionne are joint top scorers for the Hammers, with 4 goals each but at the other end we see that they have let in 12 goals in their 8 home games, 27 in their total 16 games played. Manchester City have high hopes for this season, and so they should have. Green is in for a torrid time in goal, despite the absence of Tevez who will not line up against his former side.
MANCHESTER CITY
Manchester City lie 4th coming into this weekend, which is the minimum requirement for the season to be considered a success. Lots and lots of oil money has been pumped into this club and the Champions League football is required to justify it.
It's surprising to see Manchester City priced at even money for this one, but I reckon that has to do with Tevez being out, along with Adebayor, who has a groin problem. Manchester City come into this having kept clean sheets in beating Bolton and Salzburg, which is encouraging when playing a side that has trouble scoring anyway. If they cannot score as many goals as they are capable of, at least they have less to worry about defensively as West Ham aren't likely to bother them too much. I feel a draw for West Ham would be a great result, and is the only danger to the bet I am going to suggest, which is a City win.
There are reports of training ground tiffs between players and of course Tevez is constantly questioning Mancini's decisions, often publicly. Perhaps team spirit might be suffering here, but what makes me confident is that this bunch of mercenaries will have been given some vulgar personal incentives to do all they can to bring this club success. I feel they will take advantage of West Ham and get the required win.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going with Manchester City to win this one. It might even be close, but an away win it has to be.
