2010-12-11 - Fulham vs Sunderland
A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter
Football ; England : Premiership
Saturday 11th December 2010 – Kickoff 3pm
Hosts Fulham take on visitors Sunderland at Craven Cottage on Saturday looking to break their three match winless streak at home, their last win was at the end of October against Wigan Athletic, with the Cottagers winning 2-0.
Fulham (17th)
Fulham have not enjoyed the 2010/11 season so far with their only two wins coming at home against the aforementioned Wigan & 2-1 winners over Wolves earlier in the year. The Cottagers are yet to win away from home, but it's their home form that I'll be focusing on for this one.
Fulham's home record stands at a modest 2-4-2 10/11, and with 16 goals in total, they are only just ahead of West Ham (14 goals) and Wigan Athletic (13 goals) in the goalscoring stakes.
Goals have indeed been at a premium for the London side with USA striker Clint Dempsey (5 goals, 2 assists) heading their scoring charts.
French forward Diomansy Kamara (2 goals) can be a threat, but has also been very wasteful. Danny Murphy (1 assist) is usually their best hope in terms of creativity and is always dangerous at set-pieces, but has been very quiet so far.
Sunderland (7th)
Sunderland's away form has not been great on paper with a record of 1-4-3 10/13, but take away the 2-3 loss at Wolves recently (and a lottery in the derby match v Newcastle), and the "Black Cats" have performed quite well with an emphatic 3-0 away win at Chelsea being the pinnacle, along with creditable draws at Tottenham, Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool & Wigan.
I sense though that the forward line of Darren Bent (7 goals), Asamoah Gyan (5 goals, 2 assists) & Danny Welbeck (4 goals, 1 assist) are really beginning to gel, with Welbeck scoring four goals in the last four matches. Young midfielder Jordan Henderson (2 assists) has also contributed well this season.
The Betting Verdict :
Having watched both Fulham & Sunderland in recent matches, I believe Sunderland have the greater attacking edge and more options going forward than Fulham do.
It will be a tight game, and I am covering the draw just in case but there is good value to be had backing Sunderland in the Asian Handicap here.
