Champions League

2010-11-23 - A.S Roma vs Bayern Munich

A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser

Analysis:

A.S Roma welcomes the visit of last season's UEFA Champions League runners-up Bayern Munich knowing that a win here would keep hopes of qualifying to the next round and their second spot in the group.

Bayern Munich have already secured their place to the next round after recording four wins in a row while the Italians sits in second with six points.

It is simple for Roma here. A win in this match coupled with a draw
in the other games between Cluj and Basel, would mean qualification for them.

However if Roma fails to win and the other game there is a winner, then it will be decided in the final match. Bayern Munich can afford to lose in this match as long as it is within a two-goal margin, so they can still top the group. Claudio Ranieri's side though, will be out for revenge after Bayern were comfortable 2-0 winners in the opening match when they first met.

As it stands now, A.S Roma have gathered momentum since their poor start to the season and are currently on a eight-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Last weekend they defeated Udinese 2-0.

Claudio Ranieri insists that Bayern will not take this match lightly even though they are already through to the next stage. However, the German champions have been on a poor run of form and are currently 14 points behind Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund and only managed a 1-1 draw against rivals Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

So, they will want to focus their attention on the German Bundesliga to get back on track. Bayern captain Philipp Lahm admitted that his side will want at least a point here because they will want to top the group. Being group winners means that you play the away leg first in the second round and you also avoid the favourites.

As for the team news, Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi is back in the squad after recovering from a groin injury and is expected to start. Centre-back Juan and striker Adriano returned from their respective thigh and ankle injuries at the weekend and have been included in the side as well. However, Rodrigo Taddei remains sidelined with a calf problem.

Bayern Munich are badly hit by a number of injuries and suspensions depriving them of Mark van Bommel, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjen Robben, Miroslav Klose, Holger Badstuber and Ivica Olic.

Van Gaal is banking on hot-shot Mario Gomez to continue his recent streak in front of goal and will give some of his rusty players including Franck Ribery, Diego Contento and David Alaba the chance to get some time on the pitch. Meanwhile, centre-back Martin Demichelis has recovered from a hamstring strain and is fit to play.

Take A.S Roma to win this match.

Cheers and good luck,
Cruiser
