SUNDERLAND
It's going to take a brave man to go against Sunderland right now, and I am not that man. The Black Cats went to Stamford Bridge last weekend and mauled the champions 3-0. No one could have see that coming.
Other than that poor showing against Newcastle, it's hard to find a bad performance from this team. They have done excellently in defence, and played every team they've faced very very hard. They've beaten Chelsea and Manchester City, while holding Arsenal and Spurs to a draw. The results mean Sunderland are 7th in the table.
The man to keep an eye on today is Darren Bent, who returns form injury. He has 5 goals this season, best in his side. But Asamoah Gyan has quickly racked up 4, so expect them both to cause Everton's defence trouble tonight.
John Mensah and Anton Ferdinand are both set to miss out tonight, along with Frazer Campbell. The defence has been doing everything right, and I can see them restricting Everton to one goal at most.
EVERTON
The Toffees lie 16th in the Premier League right now, and come into this having drawn 2 and lost 1 in recent weeks. Arsenal were their opponents last weekend, and all Everton could manage was a late consolation.
Everton have played away from home 6 times this season but won just once. Merseyside's Blues do have a very good record against Sunderland, and they will be happy some of their strikers are finally scoring a few seeing as they'd quite like to keep that record going. Tim Cahill is the leading scorer for Everton with 6 goals so far, and Arteta, Yankubu and Saha will all be in the side too, always a threat, despite Sunderland's strong defence.
Marouane Fellani is suspended for this match, and the midfield will sorely miss him. Phil Jagielka is listed as probable for tonight, having recovered from the injury that kept him at home in midweek.
BETTING VERDICT
I was thinking of suggesting a bet on both sides to score, but I feel more confident in suggesting a Sunderland bet.
Take Sunderland to win as the price is great value, but if you're after a safer bet, perhaps take them as a DNB option or on the AH with a start.
