THE SITUATION
Been looking at this match and checking out stats on my mobile all day at work and just got in, so here is the preview now.
Statistically, this is a complete mismatch, and I reckon the visiting Bruins has what it takes to win this one straight up despite being underdogs.
Washington (3-6, 2-4 Pac-10) will have QB Jake Locker back for this one, but I'm not so sure that will equate to a win for the Huskies. In his absence, Washington scored only 16 points last week at Oregon and lost in a blowout. The fact remains that this defence still gave up 53 points, and even with Locker at his best this team can not put up that many points.
The Washington defence is never going to give them a chance to stay in it. Besides, Locker is still not 100% and is a long way away for the kid many were talking about as a candidate for the Heisman. At the moment, he's not even in the top 50 in terms of QB ratings.
Back to the Huskies defence, that can't keep anyone out, and they are ranked 109th in the country in points allowed and 110th in total defence. They are giving up over 36 points per game, and opponents gain close to 450 yards on them per game.
If an opponent wants to run the football, then Washington is the team to do it again, as they seem to be stuck in the role of butter to their opponents hot knife. They are the 3rd worst team in the entire country when defending the rush! With Washington giving up almost 45 points on average in their last 4 games, UCLA will be liking their chances!
UCLA (4-5, 2-4 Pac-10) come here with Derrick Coleman and Jonathan Franklin and those 2 are going to help UCLA tear Washington apart, so the 2.5 points extra seems like a free gift to me.
Indeed, UCLA have actually got a 3-0 record in the last 3 games played between these two sides and are 11-2 in the last 13. Also excellent is the fact that UCLA has covered the spread on all but 1 of their last 6 meetings.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going with UCLA and the points here.
There are just too many things going against Washington here, head to head record, poor recent form, swiss cheese defence and, of course, the Hurt Locker.
The Pick :
UCLA +2.5
Gooner’s Statistical Value Bet
Take UCLA Bruins +2.5 ATS @ 1.95 (-110)
