OHIO BOBCATS (7-3, 5-1 MAC)
Ohio are about to play a key game here in the MAC against conference rivals Temple, with both teams sporting a 5-1 conference record. The Ohio Bobcats started the season 1-3 but are now at 7-3 after a 6 game winning streak. The last win, against Buffalo, was impressive, ending 34-17.
The team is ably led by QB Boo Jackson, who has thrown 14 touchdown passes this season, and also run in 7 himself! But, he does have a weakness. Apart from a first name that rules him out from every being taken seriously, anywhere, he has been intercepted 13 times this season, which is a big no-no when your team is relying on you against a tough rival in a game like this!
The Ohio defence did have a very good game against Buffalo, holding them to just 80 yards through the air! However, they did allow them to gain yardage on the ground, and that is where they will run into problems (heh) with Temple, as the Owls are a very good running side!
TEMPLE OWLS (8-2, 5-1 MAC)
Temple grabbed their 4th straight win, over Kent State 28-10, to improve to 8-2 for the season, giving them the chance at a conference championship if they can get past Ohio first. They will be confident, as they have beaten Ohio in their last and only meeting here at home, and actually have a 10-0 home record here against all opponents, which is a school record!
This Temple team are serious this year about becoming MAC champs, as they have an excellent conference record and come into this off 2 shutout wins. One of those wins was against the same Buffalo team that Ohio beat 34-17. Temple beat them 42-0! The defence gave up points last week to Kent State, and I think rather than look at that as the team getting slack, we should consider that the release valve before they get back to playing sock solid defence here against Ohio in front of their home fans!
On attack, despite being a great rushing team, Temple had a poor running game against Kent State, where I feel they suffered a look ahead situation and just did what they had to, win and finish the game so they can begin preparing for this one. In the absence of impressive rushing numbers, the team still got a great outing from QB Mike Gerardi, who had 370 yards passing and 2 touchdowns.
BETTING VERDICT
There is too much of a difference between these 2 teams, and that extra half point is just there to make this one difficult to pick. Not for me. I reckon Ohio get creamed tonight by a Temple outfit that knows their time has come.
