The Detroit Pistons (4-6) have a chance to continue their momentum they are picking up with their veteran group as they visit the Golden State Warriors (6-4), the 2nd meeting between the teams already this season.
It was a disappointing 0-5 start to the season that had Detroit fans worrying, but they should be feeling better after winning 4 of their last 5 games. This run has coincided with the return of Richard Hamilton and Will Bynum to give the team a little more depth on the bench too.
Ben Gordon continues to impress in his 2nd season in Detroit as is Rodney Stuckey. The Pistons beat the Warriors at home thanks to strong contributions by the latter of those 2 players mentioned and Richard Hamilton.
Golden State ended their last 2 games with losses, but more worrying was the lack of Offensive effort. They averaged 81 points in those losses and shot less than 38% from the field. They had been averaging 106 points per game before the latest 2 losses.
The Warriors recorded their lowest total of the season last time out when only scoring 72 points as a team in the loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Monta Ellis being the only player to score more than 11 points in the game.
A new ownership has taken over the team and they will be watching their first home game of the season. Unfortunately for the Warriors, it looks like David Lee will be missing for this game after undergoing surgery. Lee had started the season averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds a game.
Head to Head
Detroit are 6-1 in recent games with the Warriors and have also won 4 of their last 6 at the Oracle Arena.
Golden State are 16-5 against the spread in their last 21 home games overall. Detroit are 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 road games.
Prediction
Golden State have been one of the top Offensive teams in the NBA in recent seasons, but have struggled because of their Defensive issues. This is an interesting game as the two teams have contrasting momentum at the moment, although I am sure the Warriors are glad to be returning home.
I feel it is a little hard to determine the winner of this game and I genuinely feel the Pistons do have a chance here as the team returns to the full complement of playing staff.
However, I think the points total has perhaps been set a little high here, as is usually the case when the Golden State Warriors are playing at home. The Warriors have been struggling a little bit in their last 2 games, and the loss of David Lee makes it a little tougher for them.
I think this game will go 'Unders' as long as we can avoid OT.
