Still undefeated Auburn will travel to take on Mississippi to face Ole Miss, having pulled off a big win last week against SEC rivals LSU. Auburn won 24-17, and are now the top ranked team in the country. Funnily enough, Auburn have played this fixture with Mississippi 13 times when ranked in the top 25, and have never lost.
QB Cam Newton was the big reason for Auburns win last week, and the Heisman candidate rushed for 217 yards last week with 2 touchdowns. Yes, I did say rushed. But can the boy throw? Er, yeah. He ranks 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency, and 9th in total offence. His 27 total touchdowns, and 14 on the ground put him at the top of those rankings. In truth, this guy is a triple threat, as he can play as a tailback too.
Today, look for him to be well protected so he can settle in the pocket and throw, with the threat of going for it himself always alive. He seems to favour throwing to Terrell Zachery and Darvin Adams so look for those combinations to net results.
MISSISSIPPI (3-4)
Ole Miss will be properly tested against this Auburn defence, which has registered 20 sacks and 15 turnovers this season. I reckon they will give Auburn a good game though, seeing as they have had success passing and rushing the football. QB Masoli has over 1250 yards and 10 touchdowns, and can also rush pretty well himself, ranking 2nd on his time!
The Ole Miss Rebels are averaging about 31 points per game on offence, but the 32 points they let in have proved too many. It's led to a poor 3-4 record, and despite the offensive prowess, they are mismatched against Auburn. The rush defence in particular will have trouble today as the Auburn ground attack seems particularly strong, with players in many positions able to carry the ball effectively.
