2010-10-30 - Derby County vs Watford

A Sports Betting Pick by ArmchairPunter

Derby County v Watford
Football : England : Npower Championship
Saturday 30th October 2010 – Kickoff 3pm

It's a trip to Pride Park next up as a resurgent Derby County play host to visitors high-scoring Watford on Saturday.

Derby County (12th)

Derby County will be keen to get back to winning ways following last weekend's 0-2 defeat at Millwall, having previously strung together a six-match unbeaten run.

This run included a 5-0 demolition of Crystal Palace, a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough, a 3-0 home win over Preston NE and a good 3-2 away win at Doncaster Rovers.

The Rams’ home record stands at a steady 3-1-2 14/6, and have won their last three home matches on the trot, scoring 11 goals and conceding only one. Three points against Watford today would put them level on points with the visitors.

Midfielder Kris Commons (7 goals, 2 assists) is enjoying his best season since 4 terms ago when he notched 10 goals for Nottingham Forest with 7 assists.

Commons is backed up by young Spanish forward Alberto Beuno (3 goals, 1 assist) while the creativity is largely supplied by midfielders John Brayford (3 assists) and Paul Green (1 goal, 4 assists).

The Rams have failed to score at home just once in their last 12 at home, with five of their last six at home producing over 2.5 goals. Incidentally, no fewer than 12 different players have scored so far for Derby County this season.

Watford (5th)

Watford are sitting nicely in fifth spot so far, and have made a good start to this season. Much of this success has been based on a better away record than their home one, as The Hornets are at 4-1-1 14/6 – interesting to note that both sides have identical goals for/against tallies.

Watford's overall form has been a little erratic in the past few weeks, with wins over Sheffield United (1-0 away) & Ipswich Town (2-1 at home), while losing 2-3 at home to Swansea City, 2-3 at Portsmouth, then 0-2 at home to Scunthorpe United.

But it is goals I'm focusing on in this fixture, and Watford have failed to score away from home only twice in their last 12 on the road. They also possess firepower up front in the shape of strike partnership Danny Graham (6 goals) & Marvin Sordell (6 goals, 2 assists), along with midfielder John Eustace (3 goals) and ex-Birmingham City defender Martin ‘Tiny’ Taylor (3 goals).

Nine different players have registered goals for The Hornets so far.

The Betting Verdict :

Put simply, Derby County have found their attacking touch of late and are producing goals, and you'd think Watford are good enough to score at least one goal.

I'm backing goals at Pride Park on Saturday.
