NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS (5-2)
Northwestern have been excellent on the road this season, going 3-0 as visitors. It's their home form that has been lacking, with the team losing their last 2 to drop to 5-2 overall. Their last loss was to Michigan State, who have been excellent this season, and so that 3-27 loss is actually not a bad score for Northwestern.
In that game, Northwestern lead after 3 quarters, but let it slip late giving up 21 points in the 4th while scoring only 3. I'm putting that down to a lack of concentration, along with the Spartans being very good. Northwesterns QB Dan Persa, who is a dualthreat passer, had 3 touhdowns, throwing for almost 200 yards and running for almost 50.
I feel this team has an offence that will trouble Indiana here, but the defence really caught my eye in that meeting with MSU, where they held their ground attack to just 100 yards. Sure they tired and let up in the end, but I saw enough to know they can get off that 2 game slump and get their 4th road win of the season.
INDIANA HOOSIERS (4-3)
Now the Hoosiers are really in a slump, having lost 3 of their last 4 matches. To make matters worse, all 3 of those losses have come against conference rivals! Yikes!
Last week, Indiana got thrashed at Illinois 43-13. The Hoosiers shot themselves in the foot, turning the ball over 5 times, 4 of them via interceptions. QB Ben Chappell was guilt for 3 of those interceptions and I expect him to look for his main receiver Damarlo Belcher to turn his stats around.
Last season saw Indiana lose by just 1 point to Northwestern, 29-28. They will be eager for revenge here, but from what I've seen of the 2 teams, and from the statistics, Northwestern is the better side.
BETTING VERDICT
Got to be Northwestern for me. I'll take them to win this one.
