2006-01-31 - Charlton Ath vs West Brom
A Sports Betting Pick by Gooner
CHARLTON (11th) 9-2-10 27:31 LWLWD
Manager Alan Curbishley seems to have been able to right the Charlton ship during January as the Addicks have picked up much needed points after a bit of a slump.
The 1-1 draw at Chelsea 10 days ago was the first time that a team had avoided defeat at Stamford Bridge this season, and Charlton were well worth their point.
Charlton's home record is not great at 4-1-6, but if you look at the names that have won here then you get Chelsea, Man Utd, Tottenham, Arsenal and Bolton - those are all sides chasing European football.
We should see a strengthened home side here with Bent in the side (after being cup-tied) and Smertin and Murphy both also likely to start.
WEST BROM (16th) 6-4-13 21:32 WLLWL
West Brom surprised us a fortnight ago with their first away win of the season - winning 1-0 at Wigan - they followed up that performance by losing 0-1 at home to bottom side Sunderland.
It's hard to get too confident about the Baggies chances here - after all they are just 1-3-7 from their first 11 away games this season and are making losing a bit of a habit this season.
HEAD TO HEAD
West Brom won 4-1 here last season, but Charlton got revenge this season by winning 2-1 at the Hawthorns.
THE VERDICT
The home win is the most likely result - but I really wanted to see a price of 2.20 to 2.30 for the home side in order to take it on.
Instead the best price is under even money, and not worth the shot.
