Miami are no longer in the Big East, having moved to the ACC, so this is the first time they get to renew the rivalry since 2003. For the record, Miami won the last 6 in this series, not that that matters.
Miami opened the season with a dominating 45-0 win over Florida A&M but went down last week 36-24 against Ohio State, who are currently ranked #2 in the country. They weren't that bad either, as scoring 24 against such a tough side is nothing to be sniffed at.
Ultimately, it was the offence that caused the problems too, turning the ball over in their own half and giving Ohio State a short field to work with.
I'm encouraged that Chuck Berry managed to run for almost 100 yards against a very good Ohio State defence, and feel this game will offer more opportunities. QB Jacory Harris threw for a touchdown in his 232 yards but if he can keep himself from getting picked here, they're in for a good day.
As I said, the defence was actually good against Ohio State. The turnovers led to their loss, so they have cause to feel confident here against Pittsburgh.
PITTSBURGH PANTHERS
Pittsburgh opened the season with a heartbreaker, going down 27-24 in OT against Utah. They then beat New Hampshire last week to get to 1-1, and I feel they are in for a hell of a fight here in a game they are correctly priced as underdogs of 3 points.
Dion Lewis is the man to keep an eye on here. The Pittsburgh RB is capable of wonderful things, and has yet to get the chance to really put on a show. Any big scores on the ground will come from this man and him alone. The QB here is new as a starter and is still getting settled. That alone means Pittsburgh aren't worth touching.
The defence registered 6 sacks last week, although it was against New Hampshire. They're going up against a different kettle of fish now, and will find it hard against the U, especially since they're missing their best pass rusher, Greg Romeus.
BETTING VERDICT
This will be a good one to watch. I don't see any blowouts happening, but I do feel that Miami are the better side and will slowly but surely grind out the win.
