The situation is clear, Feyenoord are in trouble and the loss against Ajax this weekend was sort of expected. For the first time in many years the stadium wasn't sold out for a match against Ajax, and atmosphere around Feyenoord is very negative.
For now Feyenoord will have to be happy if they can maintain a position in the mid-table, and that is hard to accept for the fans. But the squad is just not better than that, and it is a goal that can be done.
The cup might be in their domain, but in current form a match against Roda JC will be tough enough to reach the next round.
To make things worse captain Vlaar is out for a few weeks again with a hamstring injury. Midfielder Mokotjo will make his debut for Feyenoord in this match, and winger Cabral will start for the first time.
This means right back de Vrij will move to the heart of defense, where he hasn't operated much and will be a weakening comaperd to Vlaar.
Roda JC
Roda JC is having a fine season so far, with the latest result being a goalless draw at home against PSV. Roda JC had their chances to take the full 3 points, but lacked the finishing. A draw was a good result though, and things have totally turned around at Roda JC.
After fighting against relegation when manager van Veldhoven entered, they are now a real team that is fighting for each other. They now how to deal with stronger teams, and can hit on the break fast, and strikers Skoubo and Junker have really lived up, even making international appearences now.
On midfield Roda have hard working players that never get tired, and can score and create chances. After goalkeeper Castro left the atmosphere in the squad seems perfect, and results make this even better.
THe Betting Verdict
A match with two clubs going in different direction. Feyenoord has been passed by Roda JC on the table, and there doesn't seem to be much difference in quality.
Roda has a high morale where Feyenoord's confidence is far from high, and home advantage will not be decisive here. I expect the stadium to be half filled at best, and that's not enough to make a real impact on the result in my opinion.
Feyenoord were beaten against Ajax in a really bad match, and lack of quality is visible match after match. Roda will play their usual game which is suited perfect against Feyenoord, as it will not be too hard to shut Feyenoord out with their lack of depth in their play.
I will keep opposing Feyenoord, so Roda JC +0.5 on the AH for me.
