Mainz
Mainz sit at the top at the table with maximum 12 points out of for matches and will surely look to extend their good run against FC Koln. This team is very comfortable when playing as underdogs and playing without pressure brings results.
The 2-0 away win over Werder Bremen this last weekend was really impressive and coach Thomas Tuchel had fielded an offensive formation with two strikers and one playmaker behind them which surprised Werder Bremen a bit.
The team formation won`t be changed much since the weekend, but there is a doubt about the fitness of the midfielder Elkin Soto and if he is not able to play Caligiuri will replace him.
In the attack the former Celtic FC player Morten Rasmussen proved to be a good signing so far with two goals scored at his debut and will be partnered with Marcel Risse.
Probable Mainz line-up :
Zabavnik, Svensson, Noveski, Fuchs,
Polanski, Karhan, Soto,
Holtby,
Risse, Rasmussen
FC Koln
FC Koln achieved what they wanted this weekend grabbing a big point against the defending champions Bayern Munich in the scoreless draw. They defended throughout the whole match and managed to emerge from Munich undefeated. Before that match they won against St.Pauli at home, so they have reasons to be satisfied from the performances these last couple of weeks.
Coach Sold had changed the formation several times this season but always plays with Lucas Podolski as a sole striker. Third time in a row, Milivoje Novakovic, the former captain and first team regular will be benched to open space for the youngster Christian Clemens who had showed some great performances in the past matches.
The team captain Youssef Mohamad is back in the defense in the starting line up after serving his one match ban suspension due to red card.
Probable FC Koln line-up :
Brecko, Geromel, Mohamad, Ehret,
Petit,
Freis, Yalcin, Jajalo, Clemens,
Podolski
The Betting Verdict
These two teams have played four matches between each other in the Bundesliga and they have two wins each. Overall, including the 2.Bundesliga and DFB Cup these teams have played each other 15 times and Mainz are more successful with seven wins, two draws and six losses.
I expect this to be a tight match as Mainz will look to stay undefeated in five straight matches and FC Koln will also try to avoid defeat and continue with their mini-series of two matches unbeaten.
With both teams looking to avoid defeat and playing patiently waiting for an opponent`s mistake, i don't think we will see many goals here so i think that is the better bet, rather on betting on the winner.
